Redmi 13 5G Unboxing & Fast Review SD 4 Gen 2 AE, Glass Back, HyperOS @₹12,999*

Introduction

Hey friends! I’m very happy because, after a long time, a budget series phone has arrived. This Redmi 13 5G will be priced around Rs 10-15K. While unboxing it, I don’t know the exact price, but if I compare it with the Redmi 12 5G, it’s an upgrade in every aspect. Yes, the base variant will be 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, up from 4GB RAM and 128GB storage in the previous model. The price is expected to be around Rs 12-13K for the base variant, and the upper variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage will be under Rs 15K.

Inside the box, we have:

  • A SIM card tool
  • Documentation
  • A clear case (indicating flat sides and a dual-camera setup with an LED light)
  • The phone itself, which is big and decent
  • A 33W charger (an upgrade from the 18W charger of the Redmi 12)
  • A USB Type-A to Type-C charging cable

Design

The phone has a glass back, a rarity in budget phones, with a wavy design that looks very nice. It has Redmi branding and 5G support. In hand, it feels slightly big but manageable. The phone includes a screen guard which is fun to peel off with a satisfying sound.

Ports and Buttons

  • Bottom: Speaker grill, USB Type-C, microphone
  • Left: SIM card tray
  • Top: 3.5mm jack, IR blaster
  • Right: Volume rocker, power on/off button with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor

The phone also has Gorilla Glass 3 protection, making it durable against drops.

Display

The display is a 6.79-inch Full HD IPS LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, an upgrade from the 90Hz of the Redmi 12. It boasts 550 nits of brightness, a punch-hole center, and HyperOS, replacing MIUI. The bezels are thin with an average-sized chin. Despite being an IPS display, it has good viewing angles and TUV Rheinland’s flicker-free and blue light certification. It also has an adaptive sync display with refresh rates of 30-60-90Hz and supports wet finger touch, making it suitable for use in rainy seasons.

Performance

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Accelerated Edition, which is overclocked compared to the previous model. It comes in two variants: 6GB RAM and 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, with UFS 2.2 storage and 33W charging. It features a hybrid SIM card slot (either 2 SIM cards or 1 SD card and 1 SIM card).

The AnTuTu score of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Accelerated Edition is around 4.5L, which is comparable to the scores of Snapdragon 695 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. You can play games on medium settings with 40FPS, and the big display enhances the gaming experience. The OS UI is based on Android 14, with 2 years of major updates and 4 years of security updates.

Connectivity

The phone supports dual-band 5G, Bluetooth 5.4, and Bluetooth 5.3, along with VoNR. Connectivity options are robust, and there are no problems with connectivity.

Camera

The camera setup is an upgrade from the Redmi 12. It features a 108MP primary sensor (Samsung’s HM6) and a 2MP macro sensor, allowing for 3x lossless photos. The selfie camera is a 13MP sensor, an upgrade from the 8MP sensor of the Redmi 12. Camera features include time-lapse, video, photo, portrait, night modes, and a 108MP native mode. In normal conditions, the photos are quite good for this price range. For videography, you can shoot in Full HD with the rear camera.

Additional Features

  • HyperOS: Lighter and smoother compared to MIUI, with a footprint of around 13-14GB.
  • MIUI Dialer: For call recording
  • Flash Notifications: The LED light at the back blinks when a call comes
  • Virtual RAM: 8GB variant gets 8GB virtual RAM; 6GB variant gets 6GB virtual RAM
  • SAR Value: Within limits
  • IP53 Certification: Dust and splash resistant
  • IR Blaster: Included
  • NFC: Not available
  • Colors: Available in Hawaiian Blue, Black, and Pink
  • 3-Year Lag-Free Experience: Promised by Xiaomi

Conclusion

The Redmi 13 5G is a very decent setup for the price, offering a good display, performance, and camera. It’s suitable for gaming, multimedia, and everyday use with a good balance of features.
